Burning in Korcula

We had a swimming day yesterday(Monday) in Korcula. The sun was shining and the water was warm and clear. We had the opportunity to lend our landlords snorkel, so I did some dives :) Unfortunately you could see some litter in the sea bottom...

This is not an "enögd cycklop-säl", it is me catching some fish.

Some feet.

Nanna is adoring the view.

It took us about 20 minutes to walk to the city. This was the view we had all the time :)

I am pretty sure that some hidden door should open if I push this "button"...

I finally got myself some mussels.

Korcula as an island is very beatiful and nice. We would gladly have stayed a few days longer here but... We also noticed that this town is filled with tourists --> prices are very high, even at the groucery store...

Today we took the catamaran from Korcula to Split. Here we are going to stay one night before we travel on to Zadar.

Via Mostar to Korcula

Mostar is a nice place to stay for a day or to, we prefered a day. During this time we saw the old town which had a pitoresque bridge. The old town was many centuries old, it has also a Mosk that belonged to the Turkish Pasha and we also got the chance to climb up the minaret. The stairs were narrow but the sight was very pretty.

This morning we departured to Korcula, Croatia. The train took us near Plocé port. We had to take ferry to Trapanji, taxi to Orebic and finaly a small boat to Korcula. Here are alot of tourists, you can see it from the plates of the cars, germans, italians, polish... etc. We didnt have any accomondation booked so we counted on some offers at our arrival to Korcula. We found a private room nearby (20 min walk) for about 25euros/night, half the price of a hostel. We decided to stay two nights, this is as much as our schedule can do.

Up on the Minaret (Mostar).

Inside the Mosk.

... the same Mosk from the bridge.

The famous Stari Most bridge during night.

A beautiful old building that had been destroyed by bombs during the latest war.

We later heard that Mostar is acctually divided into two halves, one croatian and one Bosnian muslim part. By our understanding these two don´t get along so good when there is local football matches between these two parts of city...

Our view from the balcony of our room in Korcula.

Sarajevo in a nutshell

Today we participated in the city tour arranged by our hostel. It was like Sarajevo in a nutshell. Perhaps the main sight was the tunnel that was built during the war in 1992-1995 to supply the city with ammunition and humanitarian help...

This is the house where the entrance was. A family lived there and was situated in the "free zone"

The tunnel from inside. Only ~20 meters of the tunnel was available for this museum. Total length has been ~800 meters.

Me. Bent in the tunnel (160 cm high).

We also visited some sites related to the Olympic games, that were held 1984 in Sarajevo. This is the bob sledge track, or what was left of it after the war.

A Panorama view of Sarajevo. Me and "Steve" from Australia, note his Sziget t-shirt.

Sniper alley. This is probably the most famous alley in Sarajevo, but actually the whole town was guarded by the snipers...

Tomorrow morning we say good bye to Sarajevo and go to Mostar for a day and night.

Discovering Sarajevo

Hi-didly-doo!

Now we have discovered and walked around Sarajevo. From the previous post we taught that it is more affordable go through the sights by ourselves, but realized that the hostel offer was quite good (guide, transportation and entry fee's etc.). So we will do the "Sarajevo in a nutshell tomorrow" :) (BTW, the hostel is "Hostel City Center Sarajevo (HCC Sarajevo)", and we realy like it)

Some discoveries from Sarajevo:

Walter is examining some old war stuff. They also had some home made weapons e.g. shotguns...

The "Latin Bridge" over the river. It was here Franz Ferdinand and his wife Sophie were assassinated and which escalated to the beginning of World War I.

Interesting sticker on an add.

These are some memories from the bombing of Sarajevo. You could also see a lot of holes in the buildings around Sarajevo.

This is the statue for all the Children that have died during the war.

As you can see the circular plate is filled with children's foot steps.

City by night with a big rocket :) (The muslim area of town).

There was a weird statue in the stairway to our hostel...

We also bought train tickets to Mostar (about 5e/person) and we are going there on Saturday morning at seven. We will only stay there for a day and continue to the Croatian coast in the evening.

Travel tip: A good bus/boat timetable site, http://www.autobusni-kolodvor.com/en/default.aspx

Rafting in Montenegro and bus to Sarajevo

After spending a day at Kotor we were thinking of having a raft trip to the Durmitor national park in the north. It was quite unclare if it would be done because the minimum participants were 3 persons, but fortunately we Kelly was in and the departure was 06:45 next morning.

A view from Hostel reception window

The rafting site were 50 meters from the Serbian border so we decided to take the bus to Sarajevo after the rafting. We also found out that Kelly had the same plans, because it would save a lot of time and effort. The ride from Kotor to the park took about 4 hours and the buss to Sarajevo took ~3 hours.

A view of the lake "something" in the national park.

Nanna and Kelly posing in front of the jeep.

Ready for rafting...

Our raft with the guys.

A pause at a small waterfall. A lot of the tourists took some pictures from it...

The bus ride was quite bumpy and went through mountains and hills. But finally we arrived outside Sarajevo and had to take the taxi to our hostel which seems very nice.

Today we plan to take some DIY sight seeing trips in the city.

Montenegro gets a touch of a Vostoknaut

Hi all, today we arrived to Montenegro. We went straight to Bar where we ate breakfast and after that continued to Kotor... A smaller city in a "fjord" at the coastline.

Here is Nanna waiting to get to sleep. We had a 6 person cupe.

Here I am. We had our beds at the top, ~2m above the floor and about 50 cm wide... and I couldnt put my legs straight :) Once again.

My boat...

We took a little hike, elevation 260 meters and 1350 steps. Nanna had double steps so thats 2700 steps for her :D

At the top. The old fortress was nice... pretty rocky and HOT.

Reisille meni...

... our attempt to visit Nicola Tela museum was not succesfull, we remembered the opening times wrong :( No science stuff today... During my bad mood I decided to go and eat me fat on cheese cake...

Walter is eating himself fat with cheese cake and a cold Latte. Hopfully the latte will make my stomach work again :)

After walking around for some time we decided to visit the biggest orthodox church in the world(?) It was huge, and for our surprise it was still under construction. They had built a temporary "altar" on one side where you could do your worship thing...

The church from inside...

...and from outside.

Now the 1½ Vostoknauts takes their way to the train station to wait for the departure to Bar. I wonder what kind of fellows we have in our 6 person coupe...

Just an other day in Belgrade...

Hi everyone that is reading our blog.

Now when it is Monday we hope that all of you have time to read our blog while working ;)

On the second day of our stay in Belgrade we decided to visit Titos Grave and the museum with all his presents from other countries and a bit of Yougoslavias history. The museum did not make any statements to all the cruelties that has happened in their history...

Tito is burried here, in a marmor block. The house is called "the house of flowers".

The last days has been cooler than the first day, but there has not been anything special to do in the city. We could have taken the train to Bar yesterday...
Well, after some wandering in Belgrade we decided to go and see a movie to the local cinema. We got some help to find the cinema with best sound quality and saw the "Ghosts of Girlfriends Past". The picture was a basic comedy, but it was nice to just turn off your brain and enjoy. The cinema itself was nicely decorated with movie figures and a "wall of fame" with some random actors.

Here is the lobby, notice "The Blues Brothers"...

...and here is "the wall of fame".

This good looking chick was in the boys toilet. Guess what was in the girls toilet!?

Last breakfast at hostel in Belgrade. Some really fatty pastry and yogurt. Yummy...

Today we are finally going to see the "Nikola Tesla" museum and just enjoy the street life and perhaps write a few postcards home. In the evening our train leaves to Bar, on the Montenegrian coast.

Hell ova hot day in Belgrad!

Okej, this blog post starts here. The Hostel computer don't cooperate with us.

This morning we arrived to Belgrade with train from Bucharest. At least 2 hours late... So never count on the arrival times here :) In the cupe we had with us a Japanese guy travelling alone. He was a quite man, never asked us something or tried to make a conversation with us. But he seemed nice.

It was a cupe with 3 beds on top of each other. And of course I had the one on the top, which were also the smallest one. Bed lenght was about 150 cm and I had to have my legs outside the bed, but it was a comfortable bed though.

This picture is from one of the stations in Belgrade suburbs. It remainded me of the movie I saw ar Rakkautta&Anarkiaa in Helsinki last year, Love and other Crimes. I started to think about the song "Besame mucho", KVG! It is a nice song...
(Well, fortunately I can enjoy R&A this year too!)

Something odd is going on...

Today we tried to visit "Nicolay Tesla" museum but we were 30 minutes late, crap. But fortunately we had time to visit the "Military museum" and to see the old fortress around it. Hey Mira, this is a real Hummer :) (the one that I have been talking about ;) )

The day here has been very hot, at least 40 degrees. That is a reason enough to sit in cafes enjoying good drinks :) Well, beer is here cheaper than coke... In the picture Nanna is enjoying the dessert before dinner :)

Hugs,

p.s. The "voi veljet" applies here too. (It is also common to not use bras... hmm, hump)
